A Viable Replacement?

The first type of it was invented in the mid-1800s.
It was cheap and easy to make, it had a lot of desirable qualties, and its use solved several problems.
Since then, scientists havedeveloped many different types of it, including hundreds of different chemical compositions of it.
And it has come to have thousands of different uses in everyone’s lives.
I’m willing to bet that you use over a hundred things that are made of it every day, and you’re even using several types of it right now, while you read this.
But then people started to realize that it came with its own problems.
Serious economical and environmental problems.
So, for almost the past 40 years, scientists have been searching for something that could replace it.
Now comes news that they might have finally found it — a replacement for plastic.
Or will it turn out to be too expensive — either economically or environmentally?
