Angelo D’Tangelo Update

Four years ago, I planted little Angelo D’Tangelo in our back yard. He was a tiny stick of a tree, only a couple feet tall. Since then, I’ve fed him, watered him, trimmed his branches, weeded the area around him, and sprayed him with stuff to kill the tiny bugs that would have otherwise eaten all of his leaves.

I also removed all of the little flowering buds that he created each spring, to prevent him from making any fruit until he was big and strong enough to be able to handle it.

This year, Angelo is four years old. He’s big and strong, so I’m letting him create about a dozen tangelos. Here’s what he looks like now, [more...]

KDE 4 - Time To Fork?

KDE 4 has been out for a few months. KDE 4.1 was recently released too. But many Linux users still prefer KDE 3.5.x over the newer versions.

In Japan, they thought of the clever idea of using cameras and intelligent facial recognition software in cigarette vending machines, to prevent minors from purchasing cigarettes.

But apparently, they didn’t test the system well enough, because it’s reportedly pretty easy to fool.

Ways To Improve Linux

Though it is only one of several hundred different Linux distros, Ubuntu Linux enjoys a lot of popularity, especially among new Linux users and Windows converts.

As sort of a “poster child” for Linux, Ubuntu Linux probably also receives more than its share of criticism and suggestions for improvements.

Linux veterans realize that many of those criticisms and suggestions would apply equally as well to most other LInux distros.

So when you read  Ten Sticking Points For New Ubuntu Users, ask yourself how many of them also apply to your favorite Linux distro.
