October 8th, 2008 by ComputerBob
For the past few years, I’ve kept my PC powered on 24/7, but I’ve physically shut off my monitor whenever I walked away from it. I did that because my erratic schedule caused me to often wake up late at night, after only a couple of hours of sleep, and go to work on my PC for several hours before going back to sleep.
But nowdays, I mostly sleep through the night — in fact, I think It’s been several months since I woke up and worked on my PC during the night.
So, starting last night, I’m going to shut down my PC before I go to bed every night. It deserves to get a good night’s sleep, and shutting it down will also help it last longer and save some energy.
Will powering it up and down every day be hard on its components? No — that’s just a common myth that’s been circulating for years.
Here are some more truths that debunk power-saving myths.
