Many years ago, when I lived in the Frostbite State, you could get on Marshall Avenue in St. Paul and take it westward to an area of Minneapolis called “Uptown.”
Uptown was (and probably still is) known as an artsy-fartsy neighborhood.
That’s where a lot of the sidewalk art festivals were held each year, during the three weeks or so that comprised that region’s summer season.
Uptown was also about the only neighborhood in the entire Frostbite State where you walk down any street and immediately see droves of college-aged kids with exotic tattoos, wildly-colored and styled hair, and numerous body piercings.
To me, it was like a huge, outdoor high school, in which the only way for people to be accepted by their peer group is to conform to the same non-conformist look as everyone else.
But Uptown’s conforming non-conformists’ practices seem very tame, compared to The 10 Most Weird Body Deformation Practices.
