In August 2008, my husband tried to murder me in an act of domestic violence. Before strangling me, he took a butcher knife and slashed 94 of my paintings. (I am an artist). I have spent the last year in and out of court dates, bond hearings and finally a guilty plea, all in hopes of keeping my baby daughter and myself safe from the monster that was my husband.
I have developed an organization called BAVA: Be a Voice Arts, where I travel, sharing my butchered artwork and the story of my abuse — yet more importantly, the moving beyond victim to survivor to a woman leading a thriving life! Read my story, view my art, and pass along my site if you think it could help someone survive. I would more than love to share my art, my story and inspire hope and healing.
Bless you for the work you are doing to shine a light on such an ugly societal taboo. It is very real and it is closer to home than people would dare to realize.
