The Dream

As I walked Heaven's streets of gold,
a friendly soul greeted me with a big hug.

Though my heart jumped at meeting an old friend,
I couldn't quite recognize who it was.

I said, You seem so familiar -- how do I know you?

Came the reply,
On Earth, I was your dog.

God put my life into your hands to bless you
and to teach you important lessons.

Thank you for welcoming me into your family,
and for doing your best to make my life
happy, healthy, safe and secure.

Thank you for the thousand ways that you
showed me how much you loved me.

Thank you for always taking care of me,
and forgiving all of my mistakes.

Thank you for being my best friend in the whole world.

And thank you for grieving for me
and for celebrating my life
when I was done being a dog.
